Yesterday afternoon we surpassed 600 ‘Ua‘u Kan

Yesterday afternoon we surpassed 600 ‘Ua‘u Kani through our O‘ahu Seabird Aid station. We are so proud of our O‘ahu team, who continue to provide thorough and individualized care to each bird despite the overwhelming numbers. Our Kapa‘au hospital is also busy with long-term care patients and challenging medical cases. We are thankful to everyone who has supported the birds in some way - whether it was by rescuing a downed bird in need, sharing posts, volunteering, donating, or some combination of all of the above. This is all made possible by that support! The Charity Trees program is back again this year

The Charity Trees program is back again this year at Mauna Lani! This holiday season stop by to vote for your favorite trees. Votes are $1 each - there are special prizes for the top three and the remaining participants split the funds from voting so everyone wins! Our theme for 2024 is all about Nēnē awareness - interesting Nēnē facts, efforts to protect them, and reminders about how special these birds are (and reminders to give them their space). Opening night is tonight 11/29! Please stop by sometime to support our Nēnē Kalikimaka tree! 💕

Special mahalo to @hawaiipacificparks for the extra keiki Nēnē currently at home in our awareness tree!! These plush are not only super cute, they also can serve as friends to young Nēnē in care at our hospital facility. 🥹

Happy Thanksgiving! Work continues at our O‘ahu Seabird Aid station at @featherandfurah ~ We are thankful for all the community members that have shown up for our native ‘Ua‘u Kani (Wedge-tailed Shearwaters). After growing up in their burrows, these youngsters are taking their first flight out to sea. For those that get disoriented by urban lights, we’re here to ensure their health and safe voyage to the ocean. So far over 500 seabirds were saved all across O‘ahu. This could not have been done without immense community kōkua! Celebrate HWC’s 13th Anniversary with us on Nov. 23! In celebration of over a decade of wildlife care, we will be offering guided walk-throughs of our wildlife hospital, as well as fun activities, free popcorn, and more. The behind the scenes peek at our facility will guide you through the many wildlife care spaces, from intake to recovery, that we use in our medical and rehabilitation work. Please note that the walk-through is designed to be a fun and educational experience about wildlife hospital care and rehabilitation, and that no patients will be on display. We hope to see you soon!
